Addiction Medicine with Suboxone/Sublocade
At our clinic, we’re proud to offer comprehensive addiction medicine services for individuals struggling with opioid use disorder (OUD). Recovery is a journey, and we’re here to provide the support, structure, and medical expertise you need. Our program combines evidence-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with personalized care, now featuring both Suboxone® and Sublocade®—two trusted and FDA-approved options for managing OUD.

Understanding the Treatment
Suboxone and Sublocade are both forms of buprenorphine-based therapy, designed to help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms so patients can focus on recovery. Suboxone is a daily medication taken under the tongue that contains buprenorphine and naloxone. It helps stabilize the brain’s chemistry and reduces the cycle of opioid dependency. It’s typically the first step in MAT, allowing patients to safely transition away from illicit opioid use.
Once a patient has stabilized on daily Suboxone, they may be eligible to switch to Sublocade. Sublocade is a once-monthly injectable form of buprenorphine that delivers a consistent dose of medication over 30 days. It is administered by a licensed provider in our office and is available only through a specialized safety program called the SUBLOCADE REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) Program.
Why Consider Sublocade?
Sublocade offers several important benefits for those looking for a long-term treatment solution. Because it’s injected only once a month, patients no longer need to remember daily doses or worry about losing or misusing their medication. The steady release of medication helps avoid the highs and lows that can sometimes come with oral treatments, providing a more stable recovery experience.
Additionally, Sublocade removes the need to carry medication at home, significantly reducing the potential for misuse or diversion. This makes it a strong option for individuals who want added accountability and peace of mind. Many patients also find that the monthly injection helps them feel more in control of their recovery, especially when paired with ongoing counseling and support services.
What to Expect
Before starting Sublocade, patients must first be stabilized on an oral form of buprenorphine, like Suboxone, for at least seven days. This ensures the body can tolerate the medication and that it will be effective once administered as an injection. After this stabilization period, Sublocade can be given during a routine office visit.
The injection is delivered just under the skin in the abdomen. A small bump may remain at the injection site for a few weeks as the medication is slowly released into the bloodstream. This is normal and part of how the treatment works. The injection site is rotated each month to avoid irritation and ensure comfort.

Patients receiving Sublocade will continue to visit the clinic monthly for their injections, allowing our team to closely monitor their progress and provide additional support as needed. These visits are also an opportunity to address any emotional or behavioral health needs through counseling and other therapeutic services we offer.
Is This Treatment Right for You?
Sublocade is intended for adults with moderate to severe opioid use disorder who have already responded well to buprenorphine therapy. It’s especially helpful for individuals who want to reduce the burden of daily medication, limit the risk of relapse, and have a more structured approach to care.
It may not be suitable for everyone. Patients with certain health conditions, including liver problems or respiratory issues, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, will need a careful evaluation to determine the safest course of treatment.
Our team works closely with each patient to understand their unique situation and goals. We offer an initial consultation to discuss your medical history, treatment preferences, and whether Sublocade—or a continued course of Suboxone—fits your needs.
